Revenue holds as profit contracts

Allstate generated revenue of 17.348 billion US dollars in the three months ended September 30, up 0.5% from the prior-year quarter. Net income attributable to common shareholders fell 44.8% to 2.050 billion US dollars, or 8.03 US dollars per diluted share, from 3.717 billion US dollars, or 13.95 US dollars per share.

Adjusted net income, a non-GAAP measure that excludes items such as investment and derivative gains or losses, pension remeasurement effects, purchased-intangible amortization and disposition gains, declined 16.2% to 2.493 billion US dollars. Adjusted diluted earnings per share fell 12.6% to 9.76 US dollars from 11.17 US dollars.

The comparison was affected by several unusual items. Allstate recorded net losses of 545 million US dollars on investments and derivatives, versus gains of 252 million US dollars a year earlier. The prior-year period also included a 720 million US dollar gain from the sale of the group health business.

Policy growth meets catastrophe pressure

Property-Liability earned premiums rose 3.8% to 15.086 billion US dollars, while written premiums increased 2.5% to 16.020 billion US dollars. Policies in force in the segment grew 3.3%, with auto policies up 3.4% and homeowners policies up 3.3%. Total policies across Allstate reached 217.610 million, an increase of 3.9%.

Catastrophe losses rose 195.7% to 1.650 billion US dollars from 558 million US dollars. The Property-Liability recorded combined ratio widened to 86.6 from 80.1, while underwriting income fell 30.1% to 2.022 billion US dollars. The underlying combined ratio, which excludes catastrophe losses and selected other effects, increased to 80.5 from 78.7.

Auto insurance posted a recorded combined ratio of 83.2, compared with 82.0 a year earlier, and an underlying ratio of 89.8, compared with 86.0. Homeowners insurance showed a recorded combined ratio of 89.5 versus 71.5, largely reflecting higher catastrophe losses, while its underlying ratio was 60.1 versus 59.8.

Protection Services adds diversification

Protection Services revenue increased 6.9% to 964 million US dollars. Adjusted net income in the segment rose to 64 million US dollars from 46 million US dollars, led by Protection Plans and Roadside. Protection Plans revenue grew 7.3% to 631 million US dollars, while Roadside revenue climbed 18.6% to 70 million US dollars.

Management said the Affordable, Simple and Connected product range was available in 46 states for auto insurance and 42 states for homeowners insurance. Allstate also said its ALLIE platform had expanded to handle millions of service calls, with additional capabilities planned for early 2027. The company said it returned approximately 1.5 billion US dollars to shareholders through repurchases and dividends during the quarter.

What investors will watch next

The results leave investors balancing durable policy expansion against the sensitivity of reported earnings to catastrophe activity and capital-market movements. Underlying auto profitability weakened year over year, while homeowners growth and Protection Services provided operating support.
