- AI data-center demand drove a sharp increase in AIXTRON's optical equipment orders.
- Management kept its 2026 revenue and margin targets unchanged while pointing to stronger growth in 2027.
- Improving activity in GaN and SiC applications broadens the recovery beyond optoelectronics.
AIXTRON reported a sharp increase in third-quarter orders on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as demand for equipment used in AI data-center communications accelerated. In its corporate release carried by EQS News, the company reported third-quarter order intake of EUR 274.9 million, up 122% year-on-year.
AIXTRON stock traded at 34.15 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:00 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That was 4.21% above the 32.77-euro quote cited in the November 2 report at 09:21 CET. The move since that report is separate from the daily Xetra comparison.
Optoelectronics leads order momentum
Optoelectronics accounted for about 68% of equipment order intake in the quarter, reflecting demand for indium-phosphide components used in high-speed optical connections. Power electronics represented 24% of equipment orders, while AIXTRON reported improving momentum in gallium nitride and silicon carbide applications.
The equipment order backlog reached EUR 549.4 million at September 30, compared with EUR 286.5 million a year earlier. AIXTRON said the backlog provides revenue visibility well into 2027, with AI data-center expansion remaining the main structural driver for optical interconnect demand.
Guidance stays unchanged
Third-quarter revenue rose 54% year-on-year to EUR 183.6 million. Gross profit increased 88% to EUR 87.3 million, lifting the gross margin to 48% from 39% a year earlier. EBIT climbed to EUR 56.7 million from EUR 15.4 million, and the EBIT margin reached 31% versus 13%.
Management confirmed 2026 revenue guidance of EUR 560 million plus or minus EUR 30 million, a gross margin of about 42% and an EBIT margin between 17% and 20%. Production output is expected to rise further by year-end, while construction of the new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, remains on schedule.
The current order profile supports the case for a photonics-led recovery, but execution remains important. AIXTRON must expand capacity with suppliers and convert elevated orders into shipments while the first nine months still show a 3% year-on-year revenue decline.
