- Improving GaN and SiC activity points to an early recovery in power electronics.
AIXTRON reported a sharp increase in third-quarter orders on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as demand for equipment used in AI data-center communications accelerated. In its release carried by EQS News, the company said third-quarter order intake rose 122% year-on-year to EUR 274.9 million.
AIXTRON stock traded at 32.77 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 09:21 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026, 1.33% above the Xetra close of Friday, October 30. The comparison uses the Xetra close of EUR 32.34.
Optoelectronics drives order momentum
Optoelectronics accounted for roughly 68% of equipment order intake in the quarter, reflecting strong demand for indium-phosphide-based optical components used in high-speed interconnects. Power electronics represented 24% of equipment orders, with AIXTRON citing improving momentum in gallium nitride and silicon carbide applications.
The equipment order backlog reached EUR 549.4 million at the end of September, compared with EUR 286.5 million a year earlier. AIXTRON said the backlog provides revenue visibility well into 2027, while AI data-center expansion remains the main structural driver for optical interconnect demand.
Margins and guidance improve
Third-quarter revenue rose 54% year-on-year to EUR 183.6 million, within the company's quarterly guidance range. Gross profit increased 88% to EUR 87.3 million, lifting the gross margin to 48% from 39% a year earlier. EBIT climbed to EUR 56.7 million from EUR 15.4 million, while the EBIT margin reached 31% compared with 13% in the prior-year quarter.
The company confirmed its 2026 guidance for revenue of EUR 560 million plus or minus EUR 30 million, a gross margin of about 42% and an EBIT margin between 17% and 20%. Production output is expected to rise further by year-end, and construction of the new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, remains on schedule.
For investors, the release strengthens the case for a photonics-led recovery after a weaker first nine months, when revenue was down 3% year-on-year. The main risk is execution: AIXTRON must expand capacity with suppliers while converting elevated orders into shipments. The company said it expects to maintain or further grow the current order-intake level in coming quarters.
