- Third-quarter order intake more than doubled year over year, driven by demand for optical equipment used in AI data-center communications.
- The equipment backlog provides revenue visibility well into 2027, while power-electronics demand shows initial recovery signals.
- AIXTRON kept its 2026 revenue, gross-margin and EBIT-margin targets unchanged.
AIXTRON reported a sharp rise in third-quarter orders on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as demand for equipment used in AI data-center communications accelerated. The company's AIXTRON release said third-quarter order intake reached 274.9 million euros, up 122 percent from 124.0 million euros a year earlier.
Optoelectronics leads order growth
Optoelectronics accounted for roughly 68 percent of equipment orders, with demand centered on laser applications for high-speed optical interconnects. AIXTRON said InP-based optical components represented the majority of its order backlog as investment in AI data-center networks continued to support the market for 800G and emerging 1.6T transceivers.
Power electronics contributed about 24 percent of equipment orders. The company pointed to improving momentum in gallium-nitride and silicon-carbide applications, including low-voltage GaN systems for AI power delivery and high-voltage SiC applications. AIXTRON said first capacity-expansion orders and a growing project pipeline indicated the beginning of a recovery, although the recovery remains an outlook factor rather than a completed cycle.
Backlog supports 2027 visibility
Equipment backlog stood at 549.4 million euros at September 30, compared with 286.5 million euros a year earlier and 257.8 million euros at the end of 2025. Management said the backlog provides revenue visibility well into 2027. Chief Executive Felix Grawert described the combination of optical-connectivity demand and improving power-electronics activity as support for a strong growth year in 2027.
Third-quarter revenue rose 54 percent year over year to 183.6 million euros, while gross profit increased 88 percent to 87.3 million euros. Gross margin reached 48 percent, compared with 39 percent in the prior-year quarter, supported by higher volume and a favorable product and regional mix. EBIT rose to 56.7 million euros from 15.4 million euros, lifting the EBIT margin to 31 percent from 13 percent.
2026 targets remain unchanged
AIXTRON confirmed its full-year 2026 guidance for revenue of 560 million euros plus or minus 30 million euros, a gross margin of about 42 percent and an EBIT margin between 17 percent and 20 percent. The company expects to maintain or further increase its current order-intake level in the coming quarters, supported by optoelectronics and growing power-electronics momentum. Formal 2027 financial guidance is scheduled with the full-year results on March 4, 2027.
Production output has risen sequentially during 2026 and is expected to increase further by year-end. Construction of the new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, remains on schedule, with the project intended to add manufacturing flexibility and strengthen supply-chain resilience.
