Air Liquide reported stronger third-quarter sales on Thursday, October 29, as Electronics and Industrial Merchant supported growth and the group launched the first tranche of a planned share buyback. In its Q3 2026 results release, Air Liquide said revenue reached 7.259 billion euros in the three months to September 30.
Revenue increased 3.0 percent on a comparable basis and 4.3 percent excluding currency and energy impacts. Reported growth was 10.0 percent, reflecting energy, currency and portfolio effects. Gas & Services revenue rose 3.6 percent on a comparable basis, with Industrial Merchant up 5 percent.
Electronics leads the growth
Electronics was the strongest reported business driver, with sales increasing 12 percent. Air Liquide attributed the performance to sustained semiconductor demand linked to artificial intelligence, while Asia-Pacific and the Americas advanced 7 percent and 6 percent, respectively, on a comparable basis.
Chief Executive Officer Francois Jackow said the quarter showed accelerating volume growth in Electronics and Industrial Merchant beyond the contribution from pricing. He described that trend as a positive sign while noting the volatility of the operating environment.
Buyback adds a capital return
Air Liquide said it will complete the first 1 billion euro tranche of its share buyback by the end of December 2026. The tranche is part of a 4 billion euro program approved through the end of 2028 under the company's BEYOND strategic plan.
The group also reported 441 million euros of efficiencies achieved through September. Investment decisions reached more than 4.1 billion euros since the beginning of the year, while total ongoing investments stood at 6.2 billion euros. The figures indicate that Air Liquide is combining capital spending in growth markets with higher shareholder distributions.
Outlook stays unchanged
Management confirmed its ability to increase the operating margin by 100 basis points in 2026, excluding energy effects and the amortization linked to the DIG Airgas acquisition, while delivering recurring net profit growth at constant exchange rates. Air Liquide also retained its target for a 100-basis-point margin improvement in 2027.
