ABB reports 1.24 book-to-bill: what it means for ABB stock
Published on 10/29/2026 at 14:13 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSWhat the order mix means
- ABB says its third-quarter order intake reached a record level and exceeded the usual seasonal pattern.
- The company links the strongest demand to electrification and data center applications.
- ABB expects fourth-quarter comparable revenue growth to remain broadly similar to the third quarter.
ABB Ltd (CH0012221716) reported a third-quarter book-to-bill ratio of 1.24, while demand in its data center segment rose at a triple-digit rate. The detail changes the reading of the company's recent automation push because electrification demand, rather than robotics alone, is carrying the strongest order momentum.
In its October 20, 2026 results release, ABB said third-quarter orders reached USD 12,055 million, up 40 percent from USD 8,606 million a year earlier. The same release said revenue increased 14 percent to USD 9,701 million and Operational EBITA rose 24 percent to USD 2,026 million.
Why data centers matter
ABB's CEO summary says the data center segment delivered the most notable growth across customer groups. That gives the order figure a more specific explanation than a broad industrial recovery: power distribution and energy-efficiency projects are becoming a larger part of the demand mix.
The operating conversion also improved. Operational EBITA margin reached 20.8 percent in the third quarter, compared with 19.2 percent a year earlier, while operating cash flow rose 5 percent to USD 1,862 million. ABB expects full-year comparable revenue growth in the low teens and an Operational EBITA margin improvement of at least 270 basis points.
