It is a company that engages in the development, construction and operation of power plants that use renewable energy sources, as well as the sale of the electric energy that they produce. The company's business activity is currently centred on wind energy and on small-hydroelectric power stations, as well as solar photovoltaic energy. In addition, it has started to develop other technologies such as thermal solar energy and the energy coming from biomass and from tides.
The company achieved an installed capacity of 11,405 megawatts (MW) by the end of 2009. In the wind power sector too, worldwidethe Company has11,010 MW of installed capacity (5,587 MW in Spain). Furthermore, Iberdrola Renewableshas installed capacity outside Spain, of around 5,700 MW at the end of 2009, whilst it is currently building around the world more than 1,370 MW.
In 2007, the Company recorded production of 14,708 million kWh- of the total number of kWh generated, 12,545 million were wind generated; 541 million were produced by mini-hydro power stations, and the remaining 0.3 million kWh relate to other technology (mainly solar).
The Company is listed in Ibex-35, the Spanish Stock Market index.
