From mandatory cancellation buttons to AI supplier audits, German firms must prepare for a raft of new regulations in the second half of 2026 across e-commerce, staffing, and compliance.

The second half of 2026 is shaping up as a thicket of new legal obligations for German companies, covering everything from how they onboard customers online to how they vet suppliers’ artificial-intelligence systems. The changes span B2C e-commerce, personnel screening, and even the care sector.

In the nursing field, a novel workplace-health initiative kicked off this spring. AOK Bayern, the regional health insurer, teamed up with Hochschule Allensbach to launch “Gesundes Onboarding in der Pflege” (Healthy Onboarding in Care). The project aims to slash staff turnover and sick-leave rates by embedding health-promotion measures into the induction process. After a concept-development phase, a pilot run is slated for 2026, with a full rollout planned from 2027.

On the technology-compliance front, provider Validato unveiled new tools for structured OSINT investigations at the start of June 2026. The services generate GDPR-compliant risk profiles for background checks on employees and business partners. They are available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. In Switzerland the focus is on the financial sector; in Austria the tool helps companies meet NIS2 compliance requirements for critical infrastructure. Validato’s searches go well beyond standard search-engine queries, tapping specialist portals, commercial registers, and online forums.

Separately, experts are warning that autonomous AI used by suppliers creates fresh liability and audit risks. Companies must control digital decision-making processes before regulators demand proof. Key steps include mapping out all AI systems, defining who has decision authority, and embedding audit rights into supplier contracts.

Cybersecurity firm Hornetsecurity also weighed in earlier this month with a guide for managed service providers (MSPs). The document calls for combining standardisation with strategic AI deployment to counter rising cyber threats and compliance demands.

Late June will bring a pivotal event for the temporary-staffing industry. On June 23, the Gesamtverband der Personaldienstleister (GVP)—the national association of personnel service providers—hosts a gathering in Berlin to discuss the new GVP tariff structure for 2026. The main topics are the federal procurement wage law (Bundestariftreuegesetz) and toughened compliance requirements.

And for any company with a B2C online presence, a regulatory deadline is imminent. As of June 19, businesses operating digital interfaces such as websites or apps must provide a clearly visible cancellation button labelled “Vertrag widerrufen” (revoke contract). The obligation stems from an amended §356a of the German Civil Code, which transposes EU Directive 2023/2673. Companies also need to electronically confirm receipt of the cancellation.

Meanwhile, a prototype for a digital asset-recording portal is being tested with several small accounting firms. Designed to streamline the collection of client receipts and reduce missing-document rates, a broader rollout is expected in the coming months.
