Press release

Partners Thomas Dörmer and Tim Heitling join Dentons' Energy and Infrastructure practice with their team of transactional and regulatory lawyers

Berlin, July 1, 2020 - Global law firm Dentons has bolstered its Energy and Infrastructure group in Berlin with the addition of a team of four lawyers, led by partners Dr. Thomas Dörmer and Dr. Tim Heitling. They joined along with associate Annekathrin Markert on July 1, 2020. Dr. Daniel Neudecker will join as counsel in August. The team, which was previously with Baker McKenzie, brings significant experience in both transactional and regulatory work in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

"Our Energy practice has successfully gained ground on the German market over the past few years. We look forward to further strengthening our client offering in terms of major projects and transactions in the energy and infrastructure sector with the arrival of our new colleagues. The new team's experience in legally challenging infrastructure projects, such as broadband expansion, will complement the capabilities of our existing team," commented Thomas Schubert, Head of Energy in Germany and Europe Co-Head of the Energy Regulatory group at Dentons.

Thomas Dörmer has 15 years' experience as a Corporate lawyer, with a strong M&A and projects background. He advises on complex cross-border transactions and joint ventures in regulated industries, in particular in the energy and infrastructure sectors. His clients are mainly international companies, banks and financial investors.

Tim Heitling has 15 years' experience advising on transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors as well as on project finance and regulatory matters. He advises national and international companies, project sponsors, banks and financial investors on M&A, joint ventures, projects and financing issues. He focuses on power and generating plants (gas, coal, nuclear power, renewables), as well as storage and distribution facilities. Moreover, he advises on regulatory matters such as unbundling rules, network access and network charges.

The team recently advised investors in relation to offshore wind farms Gode Wind I and Arkona, Infracapital on its investment in fiber network provider CCNST, and a financial investor on the auction of the fiber network provider inexio. Furthermore, the team regularly advises on transactions in the area of waste management, for example for ALBA Group.

"The new team will create synergies with our existing transactional and antitrust offering for the energy sector and contribute to our growing market presence in Germany," commented Andreas Ziegenhagen, Dentons' Germany Managing Partner. "Our clients will also benefit from our enhanced capabilities in the infrastructure and waste sectors."

"This young team is successful in the market and will make an excellent addition to our current team, while reinforcing our strong market position in Berlin," adds Dr. Stephan Busch, Berlin Managing Partner at Dentons.

Dentons' European Energy team has seen dynamic development in the last year. Earlier this month, partner Nicholas George joined the Paris office to strengthen the Energy and Infrastructure practice and the Sovereign advisory group. Dr. Gabriele Haas joined the Frankfurt office in May 2019 as a counsel, bringing experience in energy regulatory and compliance. She was promoted to partner earlier this year.

With the new additions, Dentons' Energy team includes 15 lawyers across its four German offices. They are part of the Firm's global Energy group of more than 1,000 lawyers and professionals worldwide.

Dentons' German practice counts a total of 240 lawyers and professionals.
