Winning by a large majority was the application requesting funding to help repair the Maries R-1 Gymnasium in Vienna, Missouri (population 610).

"Choosing a winner was extremely difficult. The Vienna Eagles Athletic Booster Club was selected because of the overall impact their gym has on their community," said Thomas P. Higgins, president and CEO of New Dawn Technologies. "The restoration of their gym will have an impact not only on current students, but the community as a whole. We're excited to be a part of it."

Lisa Jones, grant applicant, was notified mid-November. "I was in complete shock. It couldn't have come at a better time. Since applying, things for our gym had gotten worse. That fall, a portion of the ceiling collapsed during a rainstorm, and caused further damage to wiring and the floors," said Jones. "As a result, the school had to make the difficult decision to cancel all basketball home games for the remainder of 2011, along with all community events scheduled in the gym. This was a devastating blow to our small community."

The $10,000 New Dawn Grant allowed the Booster Club to move forward with major repairs and the gym was reopened in January of 2012.

"We were so amazed that New Dawn Technologies, from Utah, was willing to make such a generous difference to our small community in Vienna, Missouri, thousands of miles away," said Jones. "New Dawn had expressed their hope that through this donation, others would see the need and contribute as well, and they have, with an additional $10,000 received from the Imogene Gray Estate Trust and another $10,000 matched compliments of the Maries County Bank."

The New Dawn Grant, along with the additional donations, was presented during the half-time of their Junior Varsity Homecoming basketball game, Friday, February 3rd. These donations brought the fundraising totals to $47,900.
