Amsterdam, November 30, 2009 - SMARTRAC N.V., a leading manufacturer and supplier of RFID transponders, today announced that it has been selected as technology partner for a traffic management project in the Philippines. The project, which employs long range passive RFID tags for identification of vehicles, is one of the first country-wide implementations of RFID technology for traffic management in the world.

Stradcom Corporation, one of the largest private sector suppliers to government information technology projects in the Philippines, was awarded the Information Technology Project from the Philippine Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Office (DOTC-LTO). The project is expected to improve traffic flow, help enforce traffic law and increase vehicle security.

'We are very pleased that Stradcom has chosen our superior windshield label solution to best serve the DOTC-LTO requirements. Specifically designed to meet the demanding needs of vehicle identification applications, our windshield labels are tamper-proof and feature UV protection', says Manfred Rietzler, Chief Technology Officer of SMARTRAC.

SMARTRAC is delivering the windshield labels for the vehicle identification project to Free2move Scientific, who provides the total RFID hardware system to Stradcom Corporation including handheld readers for enforcement officers, stationary RFID readers for outdoor road deployment as well as accessories for fixing tags onto non-windscreen vehicles such as motorcycles and trailers.

Says Free2move Scientific's Chief Executive Martin Harnevie: 'SMARTRAC and Free2move have collaborated in developing a unique RFID system for traffic management based on vehicle identification, which offers far lower system deployment cost and maintenance cost than previous generations of active and passive RFID technologies. We foresee that many countries will follow the Philippine example, not the least in Asia & Pacific and Latin America.'

The tamper-proof, passive windshield labels provided by SMARTRAC possess several security features to ensure that the vehicle data is only accessible by authorized readers of the LTO and the Philippine police. SMARTRAC's windshield labels are manufactured using leading edge transponder assembly technologies, while applying a very strict and integrated quality assurance program.
